About

What is the ERGA Knowledge Hub?

The ERGA Knowledge Hub is a catalogue of training materials and resources related to biomaterial sampling, reference genome generation, analysis, teaching, and legal and ethical aspects, curated by the European Reference Genome Atlas community. It also features upcoming and completed training events and courses on topics relevant to the biodiversity genomics community. All material is submitted and curated by the ERGA Community, and is free to use with accreditation. Importantly, the ERGA Knowledge Hub does not physically host the training materials or event information - these remain hosted at their source, such as YouTube, GitHub, or institutional and other websites - the aim is to collect, curate, and share links to the most relevant and useful resources for the community.

How to submit training resources or events

Simply click the CONTRIBUTE! button to add information about the training materials or upcoming training event you wish to share. Check out our introductory video to learn how to submit to the ERGA Knowledge Hub. For resources and events you will be asked to associate your submission with one or more topics, such as “genome assembly” or “genome annotation”, as well as indicating the language(s) of the resource/event, and optionally indicating the skills level (Beginner, Intermediate, or Advanced). The “skills level” is clearly a rather subjective indication, it is therefore a guide rather than a concrete categorisation. For resources you will additionally be asked to select at least one category most relevant for describing the resource, the categories are aligned with the ERGA Committees and reflect all the key components relating to the generation and use of reference genomes.

What happens next?

Your submission will be reviewed to ensure that it is relevant and appropriate, and that the indicated category/categories, topic(s), language(s), and skills level are comprehensive and correct. If everything is found to be in order your submission will be accepted and it will soon appear on the Knowledge Hub. If some clarifications are needed you may be contacted for further information.

What are relevant and appropriate submissions?

The proposed resources to be added should be clearly related to biomaterial sampling, reference genome generation, analysis, teaching, outreach, and legal and ethical aspects relevant to researchers working with reference genomes.

Training materials/resources: They should serve as a learning aid to acquire or enhance skills in topics relevant for biodiversity genomics research and practice. Importantly, this excludes purely technical materials such as but not limited to: user-guides for bioinformatics tools; laboratory protocols or procedures; or manuals for operating equipment. Additionally, there should be no requirement for a login and/or subscription to access the materials.
Training events/courses: They should be focused on skills and knowledge development in topics relevant for biodiversity genomics research and practice through courses and workshops that could be online or in-person. Importantly, this excludes standard scientific conferences and symposia, i.e. the event must have a dedicated training focus. Additionally, while the courses etc. may be associated with registration fees to cover costs, those offered by for-profit companies will not be accepted.

Support for the platform

This initiative was made possible thanks to the Biodiversity Genomics Europe (BGE) project, funded by the European Union under the Horizon Europe research and innovation program, co-funded by the Swiss and British governments. It is managed and hosted by the SIB Swiss Institute of Bioinformatics. ERGA is committed to the future maintenance and enhancement of this important community resource.
